CGI Shanghai blends Holi, Basant and women empowerment

Festivities converged at the Consulate General of India in Shanghai as it collaborated with the Chaiti Arts Foundation to celebrate Holi, Women’s Day and the onset of Basant on March 7.
Named ‘Vasant Baithak,’ the celebration marked new beginnings and cultural harmony with an evening of Indian classical music and dance.

Bringing together more than 200 attendees, the event featured members of the diplomatic corps, community members and other guests, and stood as a testament to “India’s rich artistic traditions,” according to the Consulate.
The celebration featured young prodigy Shubhodeep Sinha on sitar, acclaimed percussionist Bivakar Choudhury on tabla, and Pei Yinan playing the sarangi, together delivering captivating performances blending Indian and Chinese musical traditions.
Another highlight of the event was the Kuchipudi performance by Shravya Kumar Sarvanakumar and Mahika Dasri, reflecting the beauty of India’s classical dance forms.
Talking about the significance of the event, the Consulate said on X, “The event provided an opportunity to encourage young Indian and Chinese artists to explore Indian art and create strong bridges of friendship together with Chaiti Arts Foundation, as well as underscored the power of cultural exchanges in strengthening people-to-people ties.”
